This series comprises a selection of over 3,500 records accumulated from the proceedings of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary, covering several main topics and arranged generally in chronological order.
The most important cluster contains documents on the internal operation of the Committee, such as the minutes of the closed (or rarely open) hearing sessions, including the testimonies of 111 witnesses given both anonymously and with real names; internal correspondence of the Committee's experts; internal material and minutes related to witness testimonies; memoranda and notifications concerning the collection of material and the organization of work; list of communications to/from the Committee; and bibliography and sources used by the Committee for their work.
Another key record group consists of documents generated in the process of issuing the reports of the Committee, including different drafts and versions, with comments, recommendations and amendments coming from Committee members and experts. Reports from the UN representation of various countries, such as France, The Netherlands or the United Kingdom on the 1956 Hungarian revolution are also available.
Other documents include those on activities of other United Nations bodies in relation to the work of the Special Committee, including the General Secretariat, the General Assembly, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the United Nations Children's Fund.
