Series DescriptionThe 29 black and white, 10x15cm photo paper prints were handed over to Blinken OSA by Zsolt Enyedi, one-time member of Dialogue Peace Group and one of the activists featuring in the photos in 2019. They were digitized in the same year and catalogued in 2022. The originals were returned to Mr. Enyedi. The identity of the photographer could not be established, despite OSA's efforts. Hence, the collection is handled as an orphan collection. OSA asks for help in identifying the photographer and copyright owner, who possibly holds the negatives as well.
A photo series of 29 images documenting the October 1983 street performance and march of the Dialogue Peace Group in Budapest. Dialogue Peace Group was the first grass root organization before the the Democratic Opposition, that had organized public protests and demonstrations in the 1980s.
The peace demonstration, designed as a march, is a political street performance, using posters, banners, costumes and props. The unknown photographer captured not only the performing members of the peace demonstration, but also the passers-by and onlookers, as well as police officers acting in their official capacity, in the streets and on the squares of Budapest.
The photo prints had no sequential numbers on them. Therefore their order within the series was established by the cataloguing archivist. They are not in the order of the actual political demonstration that is documented by this photo series. The discovery of the textual account of the street performance happened only after the images were scanned and catalogued.
The photos were scanned by Lenke Szilágyi in 2019. The material was processed and cataloged by Judit Hegedűs; the series description was created by Zsuzsanna Zádori in 2022.
