Similarly to the other series in the fonds, one can see the thematic changes in the sociological studies that Hegedüs concentrated on after he had ceased to be an active politician. There are some topics which also emerge in other series, such as bureaucracy, but these texts address the scholarly aspects of the topic. The files also indicate how closely Hegedüs worked together with Mária Márkus, who was often his co-author. (Unfortunately the files reveal little about their methodology.) The documents also prove that Hegedüs was involved in the preparatory work for the 1968 economic reforms, and the analysis of this topic, together with the problems of the social-political reform of the regime, remained a major intellectual challenge for him for the rest of his life. It is quite evident from these documents how well his scholarly instincts worked. He identified and understood the main theoretical and practical problems of the socialist system and the first signs of the approaching crisis far in advance, and started to try to find alternative solutions. The series also contains the texts of the lectures Hegedüs delivered at various scientific conferences. These lectures were based on research conducted by Hegedüs and his colleagues.
