Scope and content (abstract)

The series contains press clippings arranged by different topics related to the political, economic and social situation of the divided world of the Cold War era. The documents also help to track the changing state of the scientific and technological competition between the two superpowers and their allies. Besides these, the series provides insight into other aspects of the Cold War as the pattern of collecting and organizing materials were apparently formulated by the main political events and the interests of the Research Institute of RFE/RL.

Thus, different sections were dedicated to the situation of women, important international political events and actors, military conflicts, art and political movements, and the situation of different churches. In certain folder level descriptions, some of the most important publications are highlighted. The series contains not only press clippings from Western newspapers, but also publications by several US governmental agencies (US Department of State, NASA), as well as reports and other publications issued by international organizations and RFE/RL.
