Scope and content (narrative)

This subfond contains the records of Mihály Csákó's university teaching activities at the Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), at the Institute of Sociology and Social Policy, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Pittsburgh, the ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences, and at John Wesley Theological College. Csákó was the founder of teaching educational sociology in Hungary, the initiator and leader of the Education Sociology Subcommittee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

He was rehabilitated in 1991, which enabled him and Ilona Liskó to defend their previously unauthorized doctoral dissertations based on the results of the 1973 study of skilled workers.

He was the director of the Institute of Sociology and Social Policy at ELTE from 1992 to 1994.

He and his colleagues designed new curricula, where they "invented Bologna, just a bit better". The idea was that in the first two years of university, students would study the same subjects, and after the second year they would specialize in sociology, social work, etc., while in the third year of study they would also acquire practical skills. For example, they could work as research assistants, so they could 'graduate' from university earlier, and gradually. In 1993, the new Higher Education Act was adopted, which divided education into courses and determined their length, so the system already in place had to be revised.

Csákó is one of the founders and a lecturer at ELTE TáTK. He gave lectures and tutorials in sociology, sociology of education, political socialization, English and French reading. He run specialized programs and a research center. He has organized and for many years directed the Sociology of Education program at the ELTE Faculty of Social Sciences and the Centre for Research and Training in Sociology of Education and Youth.

At the age of 68, Mihály Csákó became an associate professor at the John Wesley Theological College, where he taught until his death.
