Mihály Csákó's involvement in public and democratic activities played a significant role in his life. This included his leadership of the Job Placement Office, membership in democratic trade unions, participation in the Scientific Workers' Democratic Trade Union (TDDSz), and serving as a representative in the Independent Trade Unions Democratic League (LIGA), where he was responsible for international relations. He took part in the work of the Opposition Roundtable in 1989, and represented the Independent Trade Unions Democratic League (LIGA) in the Interest Coordination Council during the taxi blockade in 1990. These activities offer insight into the work of democratic trade unions and the activities of the Democratic Opposition.

The subfond includes various publications of the Democratic Opposition, such as AB Hírmondó (samizdat periodical), Beszélő (samizdat periodical), Máshonnan Beszélő (From somewhere else, samizdat periodical), as well as volumes of Magyar Füzetek (Hungarian Booklets) published in Paris, publications by AB Független Kiadó (AB Independent Publisher), and numerous other works published in samizdat form. The materials in this subfonds include István Kemény's study titled "A magyarországi szegénység" (Poverty in Hungary), which was based on a questionnaire survey; books by Béla Király, Bill Lomax, Tobor Méray, Adam Michnik, and lecture outlines from the Flying University about Poland in the 1980s.
