Content and structure
Scope and content (abstract)

Gábor Demszky was the first Mayor of Budapest after the regime change of 1989, keeping his office for five terms between 1990 and 2010. During these twenty years Budapest went through profound urban development while facing economic, social and political challenges in the post state socialist period and finding its place in the international political relations. A major factor in the history of Budapest was Hungary’s joining international treaties and the European Union.

The subfonds Records of the Budapest City Council includes documents on Budapest’s urban policy collected and selected by Gábor Demszky. In addition to Assembly, General Staff and House Committee resolutions, agendas and memos, the collection includes the thematic records and publications on big investments after the regime change as well as the full collection of press monitoring by the Press Office of the Council between 1990 and 2010.
